(11,114 posts)Netflix has a lot more competition than it used to. People are now making choices. I don't have cable and exclusively use streaming over a chromecast, and I don't have close to all or most of the services. Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max are probably the big four. But you have Paramount+, Apple+, AMC+, etc. etc. etc.
How many of those do you want to pay for? And when paying for them, are you actually using them? I recently noticed I hadn't watched anything on Netflix in almost two months. I haven't cancelled it, because there is quite a bit there I've been "meaning" to see, but I bet there are plenty of people who are now seeing these streaming services more like gym memberships they never use. "Well, maybe I'll go later in the week!" I mean, maybe.
Mix in the Russia stuff and the fact that Netflix's quality control has really taken a dive. So much stuff on there is mass-produced garbage content for the sake of having content. Even the tent poles are kind of . . . eh. They could afford to do that when they didn't have competition. Now they do.
The only thing really happening is that they're plateauing a bit due to saturation and competition.
