(6,744 posts)You speak for me! I cautiously opened a conversation with one of my nieces this weekend. I explained what I and other women have fought for rights over the years, including her Great Grandmother, who fought for the right for women to vote. I talked about all of the civil activities Great Grandma worked in to move women's rights forward. Then I told her all of the civil actions I was involved in to move civil rights and environmental issues forward over the years. That I joined The League of Women Voters and worked on get out the vote campaigns. We talked about the rights she and her generation have because of the work generations of previous women worked hard to put in place for their daughters, granddaughters, great granddaughters, etc. I ended with the fact that I am tired of the fight, and it is now time her generation to pick up the mantle if she wants the same rights for her children, grandchildren, etc. I tried to pass the torch to the future, because I and others like me won't be here to do the work. I pray she take heed!
