12. You are correct. These folks ignore the New Testament - especially the bits in red letters.

(Are there still are red letter bibles, with the words of Jesus in red?) Jesus had nothing to say on the subject. Even Paul, a misogynist, had nothing to say about abortion.

The Hebrew text is clear, at least to me, that a fetus is not a person until it breathes. There is some authority in Jewish thought for the proposition that a child that does not survive for at least 30 days was never a viable person. The only reference I can find in either the Hebrew text or the New Testament to abortion is in the Hebrew text, (Numbers 5:11–31) in which a woman suspected by her husband of adultery would be given a concoction that would be an abortifacient if she had been unfaithful.

Even under old English law, which Alito, J. seems to admire, a fetus was not the subject of any protection of the law until "quickening," when the fetus could be felt to move.
