Early in the war, a lot of conscripts simply surrendered, saying that's not what their contract said they'd be doing. The ones who are deserting now have just had enough, are suffering from massive PTSD, and might not have been decent guys to begin with. They are going to be a huge problem in central Europe because there is only one way for a deserter to live: crime.

They're also going to want to avoid capture at any cost, capture means getting sent back to Russia in a prisoner exchange, and that most likely means getting sent back into Putin's war.

Until and unless somebody starts to stick his neck out and organize these guys into groups sabotaging the war effort and planning to overthrow the twits running the show in the Kremlin, this is what they're facing, along with people in the countryside they will prey on.
