The US gas industry is producing fewer than 12 million barrels per day—8% less than in 2019. They have refused to ramp up production because they’re making exorbitant profits from the Russian sanctions and the refusal of MBS to expand output. CEO and top management bonuses are tied to profits. I imagine they will milk this situation until the economy gets forced into a recession. They’re rich enough to not be bothered by a recession.

Edited to add: I just checked historical data, and in 2019/the US was producing over 13 million barrels per day. Today it’s 11.6 million. The ability to produce that 13+ million barrels per day is still there. The willingness is not. We are being held hostage by utter greed.
