At least 1,833 people died. (I believe the death toll was actually higher.)

Katrina was a HORROR show. For the people who lived it and the rest of us who witnessed its destruction in real time on television. Watching it slowly but steadily approach and engulf New Orleans was apocalyptic. The resulting carnage and abject failure of FEMA to react was gruesome.

Katrina is in a category all its own. I hope I never again witness anything like it.
