(17,757 posts)The only way that I know how to fight reasonably is at the polls. I am a vet too, and I hate to tell you, but as far as I can tell, anecdotally of course, is that most of the vets that I know are conservative not progressives. The military, veterans and police are the hotbeds of our modern Fascism. Loyalty to the country does not require blinders, and predicting negative results based upon an "if/then" calculation is not defeatism, but perhaps a warning to prepare; further incentive to work within the system to avoid the consequences. "When it starts" would result in everyone being a loser. We can't save Democracy by destroying the country. No matter who wins, a civil war destroys everything.
Sun Tzu tells us that, "Subjugating the enemy without fighting is the true pinnacle of excellence." The structure of the right is based on a rotten foundation of lies, fear and hate. We just need to figure out which small stone to remove that will bring it crashing down on itself. We do not do that by meeting them, with weapons, on their terms.
In a normal society, the coming hearings might show us weak spot, but I think we left normalcy somewhere on the path behind us. I hope that I am wrong, and that the hearings expose the vermin to the light, but I am not betting the farm on it.
