Santa Fe and Taos are both about 7500 feet. I live at about 6000 feet, water boils at 200F chez Warpy. This city is 4950 beet at the river on the southern city limit, 6600 feet at the tram station, which whisks you up to 10,660 feet.

It's a rift valley with weird geology. Locally, it's sedimentary rock that has cracked and lifted. To the west, it's multiple volcanic escarpments, blackened "bumps" on the horizon showing where the oldest volcanoes were, Mt. Taylor 60 miles to the west. The uplifted mountains to the east show the tuff layers deposited by the Toledo and Valles supereruptions clearly. Geology is writ large in NM, there is little vegetation to obscure it because there's little rain to erode it.

But yes, there are other cities up in the clouds. I just wish those clouds would produce some rain.
