3. Lincoln's attitudes about slavery weren't liberal.

While he himself found slavery morally repugnant, he was no abolitionist. He was willing to let the South continue the practice, if it would keep the Union intact.

He was also a typical racist of his day who didn't think black people should have the rights of white people. Rather than letting them integrate if freed, he was in favor of shipping them off to other countries, never mind if they could speak the local language or if they would have any way to support themselves. Just boot them out.

Not exactly "liberal" beliefs.
