36. Good point. Trump could have leaked to the mob

or to his militia friends where the car was and let them attack it. Then Trump could blame the mob and say that Pence died a coward, fleeing his duty.

Or, if murder was not in the plan, he could have just made an issue of cowardice over fleeing and then claimed that, since Pence fled the scene, Grassley had to take over.

One way or the other, the plan was to get Pence away so Grassley could follow through.

And Pence knew that.

He was looking out for his image as well as for the rule of law. If Trump became dictator, Pence could never run for president himself in the future.
