And both gay panel members noted that gay youth often experience it in puberty as they're sifting out their orientation and identities. However, by the time puberty is over and around early adulthood, the issues are sorted and they're just regular cis gay people. The conversation was how it's changing now that anyone with gender dysphoria is being told they're trans and should be looking into affirmative care. Identity, especially around early and mid adolescence is very, very malleable as kids sort out their identities and firm up in their orientation.

It's a really, really complicated subject. Unfortunately, even broaching it is immediately met with charges of bigotry. So, it's like forget it. Which is unfortunate, because I think this issue with gay youth needs to be discussed. But in a situation that requires a scalpel, everyone came armed with hammers.

Discussing it just isn't going to be productive.
