(60,965 posts)On so many levels, things are unsettled and have been since Biden took office.
From the start, he was not provided with the normal transition where his team would have gotten all the details on everything then facing the country. In addition, he came in soon after a very scary insurrection with a huge part of not just the country, but the Congress itself not agreeing he was legitimate - even with a solid win.
Not to mention, the country was still dealing with the worst of covid, people sick, people dying, school done remotely, the economy very slow. His approach, that of a grown up, has been that he and his team put their heads down and started to work on the problems - in an order that made sense.
- People got vaccinated
- the economy revived and a record number of jobs were created -- and, due to scarcity-- actually paid more
But, as this happened, as anyone should have expected a complicated economy did not revive smoothly. In addition, for the last several months inflation - where costs were compared to the year before in a covid tamped economy look terrible. (as someone who was in my 30s in the late 1970s/early 1980s, I can tell you the mortgage rate offered at one point was 17% No this is NOT like that.)
So, there were supply chain problems. His team worked on them, but as they have become less a problem ... they are less a story. Baby formula was scarce due to a company's quality issues. He actually found a solution buying more overseas and using the military to import it. Again, now improved ... so no stories.
Biden got the first gun bill in decades -- biggest comment "it is not enough". Biden has done much of what he could do with Roe vs Wade --- but HE DOES NOT HAVE THE VOTES to legislate it now. He needs at least 2 more Senators.
Not to mention, the only real poll result that will predict what happens will be head to head races between 2 people - and Biden is winning the ones I see.
Russia invades Ukraine. Biden acts to lead NATO and manages to hold many countries to do things against their own interest on sanctions. Support has been much greater for Ukraaine than expected. Main US story --- the price of gas is too high.
