The Kansas “right to abortion” is based on a 2019 Kansas Supreme Court decision interpreting text in the Kansas Constitution stating:

“All men are possessed of equal and inalienable natural rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

The Court held in a 6-1 decision that the quoted language gave a woman the right to choose.

Four years ago, the Iowa Supreme Court held the Iowa Constitution also protected the right to abortion. Six weeks ago the Iowa Supreme Court, with 3 new members, held there was no such right guaranteed by that same Constitution.
