Take a look back through history, or a look around the world in modern times, to see how far religious extremists will go in their cruel quest for control over women.

Revocation of the rights to drive, to own property, to appear in public without a male chaperone? Sure. Mandatory wearing of the burqa? We got it. The indescribable horror of female genital mutilation? All too real for women in some places today.

These extremes can't be mentioned as a part of party messaging, because to Americans today they seem so unlikely as to be absurd. But they should be born in the back of the mind. We must never allow even a single step down the road that leads in that direction. Not a single step.
