(38,803 posts)A Trump indictment will bring together those who are capable of being brought together.
For the first 6 decades of my life I have believed in the power of communication, the importance of facts, and the good will of others - even those who do not agree with me on policy - to reach compromises which are reasonable (even if not ideal) for our country. The first half of my 6th decade is different. We no longer agree on basic facts, and threatening election workers, employees of the national archives, and the FBI for doing their jobs with integrity is beyond the pale.
So while I might have chosen differently in Gerald Ford's case, his pardon of Nixon did more to heal a divide than perpetuate it. That is not true for the failure to indict (or any potential pardon) of Trump. Those who support him are a cult in a way this country has not seen before, at least not in numbers large enough to destroy civilization as we know it.
