(15,526 posts)If you watch Buen's 70+ minute body cam video of the encounter with Glass, which I shared earlier in this thread, I think he was involved in every threatening action or decision that was made that night!
I believe he's the same guy who suggested another cop stand on the vehicle's hood too.
Why they often seemed to defer to Buen, who completed community college police training less than two years ago, is beyond me! Even the older gray-haired cop that they called "Chief", who was very calm and comforting with Glass, seemed too prone to Buen's suggestion to break the passenger-side window. The older cop seemed hesitant, like he wanted to think about it some more, but then Deputy Buen volunteered to break the glass himself! Of course!
Someone like Buen should NEVER be a police officer anywhere, and he deserves prison-time!
If Glass had EVER exited the vehicle with the knife, I'd still be saddened if he was shot to death, but I'd probably also think he posed a danger at that point. Even if he ran away from the cops with the knife, the shooting might still be justified because he could possibly stab a stranger in his disturbed mental state. But for crying out loud, he never left the driver's seat! Of a completely immobilized vehicle that was apparently out of gas too! (Per the words of the "Chief" as he was talking to Glass.)
The dispatcher seemed like a sweetheart, but it also would've helped if she had explained to the cops that Glass was terrified of "skin walkers" in that area and he didn't want to leave the vehicle for that reason.
