(22,663 posts)115. "Innocent until proven guilty" only applies to courtrooms.
Outside of a courtroom, we all have the right to form our own opinions, and to voice them.
The burden for proving a person's guilt falls on the prosecution, and those who serve on a jury that will be ruling on a defendant's guilt or innocence are enjoined to keep an open mind and not form an opinion until they have heard all the evidence.
The rest of us have no such obligation, and we do not "owe" Matt Gaetz, or any other public figure accused of a crime, an apology of any sort for forming an opinion that he is most likely guilty or for saying so.
