25. I learned something interesting about the West Coast yesterday

Apparently, we don't get our oil from pipelines because of the Rockies. Our fuel has to be shipped to us, and that's why our prices are typically higher.

Most of our country's refining capacity is near the Gulf and southern states. The Eastern states are riddled with pipelines. That's why Texas prices are always significantly lower than other places. Taxes also play a role. California also has its special formulation fun, which requires us to import more of our gasoline than other states.

Mix in local regulations, restrictions, and taxes, and you can find noticeable variations even on a county level. It all adds up.

So, we're basically hosed. Just how it is.
