Instead of having a progressive income tax, they hit every homeowner. When I moved to Georgia from Tx, my real estate taxes remained the same, even though my new lot was bigger, and the house went from 1600 sq ft to 3100 square feet. Texas also has a higher sales tax, although unprepared food is exempt.
