(11,302 posts)Had to delay some running around because of it. My cell phone blared a few times with updates and then we got the all clear. It was while watching that coverage that I learned about what happened yesterday in St. Louis Park.
I did not know any of the people who were killed in Raleigh but two friends of mine lost people they knew. I am still kind of stunned about all of them. I suspected that some degradation of society was going to happen as this culture learned to deal with the fact that everything is instant these days. No time to reflect on your responses, no ability to pass on nuance because it is all technical and distant. So, we get insanity because people are not aware of each other's humanity. Ask any vet here, shooting someone when they are standing right in front of you is normally impossible for a human because you can see the other human's life right there. Our society has become so non-connected that we don't see each other as humans anymore. We are just objects, or useful rubes, or THE ENEMY!
And some people wonder why I am so cynical about everything these days.
