With ranked choice voting, you eliminate the "splitting the vote" factor in three way races. Palin has the potential to pick up all of the votes from 3rd place finisher Begich, and then she'd win 53-47. Fortunately for the country, there seems to be a large contingent of Republican voters who can't deal with her inane ramblings, and they're giving their 2nd choice to the Democrat, US Rep. Peltola. She'll need about 3 of the 24 percentage points (or about 13% of Begich's voters) to win a full term.

Alaskan Republicans could easily win back this seat next time around. But they'd have to be willing to voter for an actual grown-up to gain that advantage.
