(2,101 posts)Ive known several people now who have gotten COVID and took PAXLOVID, including my 24-year old son. In all cases symptoms remained mild and on average by day 3 of taking PAXLOVID symptoms were almost non-existent. None had rebound COVID. All were vaxxed and boosted. Ages varied from the youngest being my son to the oldest being a friends mom who was in her 80s. My son tested negative for COVID by day 7. Not sure of the others.
Another friend and his entire family just got over COVID. Parents in their 50s, kids in their 20s. All were vaxxed and boosted. None took PAXLOVID. Their symptoms were much worse including fever and persistent cough over 2 weeks after first testing positive (nothing major, more of just an annoying dry tickle type cough). None even close to hospitalization (thanks vaccines!) but their symptoms were definitely much worse and lasted longer than those I know who took PAXLOVID.
All of the above is anecdotal of course. And there is still a ton of confusion amongst the medical community as to who qualifies for PAXLOVID. There is no longer a shortage but some doctors are still refusing to prescribe unless high risk, which is no longer necessary.
So with both vaccines and effective antivirals I agree with Biden as well.
