(11,767 posts)My family has owned firearms for as long as I remember. Not once, EVER have we used the gun as a prop or as a backdrop. It is a tool, and a potentially deadly tool at that. I was brought up to respect firearms and the harm they can cause. I was never, ever told to play with a gun or use it to send any kind of message.
Those pictures are meant to indoctrinate the children in those families to place a high value on firearms aside from their use as tools for hunting, self defense, etc...
I have never understood gun culture with their fascination with posing with their firearms. The apparent fetishization of this tool. Which is why while I own firearms, I do not belong to or subscribe to much of what "gun culture" has to offer.
I know people who are interested in guns for historical items, the mechanics and precision of the firearm, etc..., but I have known too many who obsess over the things and frankly, it is kind of creepy.
