but his outburst just shows a contradiction. It just seems that the job of soldiering is a selfless one and that his or her aim is to protect all of us. Hence, selflessness. Which is why we are always beholding to them. So it just seems odd that he would put down an American citizen's freedom because his military buddies come first.

I guess it makes sense that tribalism is necessary in the military, but the transition to civilian life should bring them an awareness of who they were fighting for.
