(1,107 posts)we've been getting training on dealing with EV fires, not fun. Not only do you have to make sure you don't get anywhere near the high voltage power supply, you also need to put over 3,000 gallons of water on one to put it out. Even then they can spontaneously reignite. If the tow truck driver pulls the vehicle to the flatbed the power the generators attached to the wheels creates can set the battery on fire again. Then when they get to the repair shop or wrecking yard they can reignite. Watched a department in CA actually dig a hole, fill it with water and drop the Tesla into it in order to get it out once and for all.
I'm kinda hoping the hydrogen powered vehicles catch on. Once they perfect a safe matrix to store hydrogen I think they will be a bit safer and certainly better in cold climates. Interesting to watch it all unfold and hope I don't get in on a call to put out an EV fire any time soon.
