(23,707 posts)for cheap in the US with lots of publicity. One of the motivations for just getting across the border (after those who need asylum) is work so they can send money home to their families.
If these companies/individuals were not illegally hiring, there would be less motivation.
There are legal options for those wishing to hire agricultural workers, but those options cost the employer money and are somewhat complicated. Several of the farmers I know in Kentucky are legally hiring workers through this agency; it costs them money but they get very good workers in return. My brother in law and my cousin team up to bring in a crew every year. They can't get locals to stay with the work, but they are required to offer employment to locals to prove how much the imported workers are needed. This all has to be documented. +
