(38,048 posts)36. The blizzard saved my 11 year teaching career.
I was supposed to student teach in the spring semester for a certain number of hours. No allowance for being sick. Unfortunately, over winter break I was diagnosed with mononucleosis, and not allowed out for the first week of the semester. Since the blizzard shut down everything and student teaching was impossible, the state allowed me to get my teaching certificate.
I taught in an inner city school for the next 11 years, which would have been impossible without a teaching certificate.
