108. Differences

Jan 2023

1. Porter is a known quantity. At the time she ran, AOC was not.

2. Feinstein is acknowledged as a dedicated public servant, but her age cannot be ignored. I believe that although AOC’s opponent, Joe Crowley, was older than she, his age at the time (52) didn’t raise red flags.

3. AOC unseated a man. As a woman, I can’t help wondering if some of the blowback she experiences/experienced isn’t sexism in action. In Porter’s case she would replace another woman.

4. Ruben Gallego’s possible run against Sinema has met with some positivity here, even prior to Sinema’s change to being an Independent.

I’m not saying all Democrats who challenge Democratic incumbents are right or wrong. But, personally, I like being able to discuss it.

Good, I hope she wins! ananda Jan 2023 #1

Shit. I think we just lost a house seat... ColinC Jan 2023 #2
We can't find a suitable replacement for her in her seat? Mad_Machine76 Jan 2023 #8
Porter is a superstar and she barely prevailed over a very (very) poor Republican candidate Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #16
I worry about that, too, but hopefully it being a presidential election year will help. deurbano Jan 2023 #32
An election year would have helped her in a re-election bid. Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #34
I just realized there is more potential to garner votes from UC Irvine students than is currently deurbano Jan 2023 #40
The student vote at UCI is certainly a source of potential pickups in CA-47. Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #45
He was being much smarter about it than we were. Nothing was on the line in San Francisco. deurbano Jan 2023 #55
I'm sure Katie Porter is wildly popular at UCI. Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #61

Redistricted into Huntington Beach and ran against a Republican The_Casual_Observer Jan 2023 #137
Yeah we might get somebody. 🙏 ColinC Jan 2023 #18
Redistricting moved her into a red leaning district Brother Buzz Jan 2023 #124
I like the idea of Katie Porter in the US Senate, but that will almost certainly come at the cost of Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #9
Isn't this a new district? Hope22 Jan 2023 #24

All districts are new. Kire Jan 2023 #91
Porter was redistricted into an even redder district than her original one Fiendish Thingy Jan 2023 #10
Yeah. And I can't imagine anybody but her could hold it. But we will see! ColinC Jan 2023 #13
Maybe now she thinks she could not win it again treestar Jan 2023 #25
I doubt it. Running in the midterms in a newly drawn district is the worst case scenario. Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #30
That's my thinking AZSkiffyGeek Jan 2023 #31
This may work out strategically nuxvomica Jan 2023 #26
Works out for whom? For Porter likely. Not for Democrats in the House. Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #33
Not if they find a stronger candidate for a red district nuxvomica Jan 2023 #86
That's the problem. Where will one find a candidate like Katie Porter out of the blue? Just A Box Of Rain Jan 2023 #87
She ended her campaign with $8 million unspent balance in her campaign account grantcart Jan 2023 #46
Good, that will help her launch her senate campaign Fiendish Thingy Jan 2023 #69
It was enough grantcart Jan 2023 #93
Then why is she complaining about money from the DCCC? LisaM Jan 2023 #92

That's my thought too Rebl2 Jan 2023 #14
Very Close ColinC Jan 2023 #19
That's what Rebl2 Jan 2023 #21
Yep! Orange County. And her new district became just a bit more republican ColinC Jan 2023 #22
Perhaps. Senate would gain a giant. Kid Berwyn Jan 2023 #47
Exactly ColinC Jan 2023 #49
My first thought too. CA-47 was made much tougher with redistricting in 2022. SunSeeker Jan 2023 #99
She barely won against a real piece of work. SleeplessinSoCal Jan 2023 #131
Have whiteboard will travel. SalamanderSleeps Jan 2023 #3
