When it comes to crime. I can understand why people are looking for alternatives in leadership. I live in Philadelphia and people of all races and backgrounds are sick of the seeming indifference to quality of life crimes. People steal at will from stores and no one does anything about it. Muggings, beatings, shootings are out of control and our DA either doesn’t charge the perps or lets them out without bail. His office looks for any excuse to let these people go. There isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t see people openly shooting up on the subway platforms. Junkies are everywhere, robbing cars, robbing packages off of people’s steps as soon as they’re delivered, menacing the elderly, pissing and shitting right on the street, it’s disgusting. My mother is scared to death just to walk to the corner store and locks her house up like Fort Knox. And she and my dad live in a fairly decent neighborhood. These are supposed to be the golden years and having to worry about this bullshit just isn’t right. Everyone is fed up with the apparent leniency being shown to bad actors at the expense of decent, hard working people.

I’m all for justice reform but to me that means making sure innocent people aren’t being locked up for shit they didn’t do and that those who have are released. It does not mean letting criminals run rampant because they come from a poor background or because people have been wrongly accused or convicted in the past.

As a result, people are looking toward “tough on crime” candidates even if they disagree completely with the other policy positions these candidates hold and even if their other policy positions hurt them in other ways.

We need to figure something out because we’re losing a lot of people who should be on our side.
