Do classified documents often show up in someone's possession improperly?

1. Classified documents are not supposed to be mixed with unclassified ones

Or at least that was how it worked at my two employers where we had classified documents. They are stored in a separate safe - I can't imagine how they would tag along with someone's stuff when they leave a job.

Also I can't imagine retaining employer documents after leaving employment. I have left three employers in my career, and I carried no paperwork besides my personnel file out. When I retire in five to eight years it will also be so.
