Arizona guard Steve Kerr, responding to pregame chants from Arizona State fans of ''PLO, PLO, PLO,'' ''Go back to Beirut'' and ''Where`s your dad?''-Kerr`s father was assassinated by Lebanese terrorists in 1984-scored 20 points in the first half to lead the aroused Wildcats to a 101-73 slaughter.

''I don`t think I`ve ever seen Steve get 20 in a half before, and you can credit it to those jerks,'' Arizona coach Lute Olson said.

Everyone agreed that Kerr`s controlled anger was the best way to handle the sick, boorish behavior by the hecklers, but it left many college basketball followers shaking their heads and wondering: Will this season be remembered as the season spectators stepped over the line?
