(12,261 posts)In 2010, I had both the mitral and aortic valve replaced with one tissue and one metallic valve. This after literally months of not knowing what was wrong, and coming much closer to catastrophe than I'd ever want to be again. The root cause was a Staph A infection attempting to turn my heart into mush.
Both my surgeon and cardiologist said that mine was the most damaged heart they'd ever seen anyone survive. A personal best for them, huzzah.
Recovery was long, but eventually excellent. I went from not being able to walk the 100 feet to the street corner and back, to doing 2 miles in 40 minutes with my dog each morning. That may not sound impressive, but for a guy in his mid-60s in the shape I had been in, I'll take that result all day long. There is no reason I know of that would prevent you from achieving a similar result.
You've got this!!!
