The difference, as I see it, is that some of us have not given up and some have. Which is fine; we all have the right to feel how we feel.
The problem comes in when people who have given up hope call those who haven't given up Pollyannas, members of the Merrick Garland fan club, and the like. I don't care how frustrated or exasperated anyone is; insults like that make things worse for everyone. Othering those who disagree with you is unfair and creates a feeling that we are on opposing sides, when actually we are all on the same side, the side that wants Trump to be held to account for at least some of his crimes. We can disagree on the likelihood of that happening, how it may happen, etc., but surely we can do that while agreeing to disagree.
I'm not completely innocent myself; in the past, I have referred to those who are absolutely convinced that Trump will never pay for anything, ever, as Chicken Littles or naysayers (although I honestly see naysayers as more a statement of fact than an actual insult). I realize that I should not insult other people if I don't want them to insult me, and I shall do my best to keep that in mind going forward.
