(23,032 posts)116. As shocking as this news is, I am not devastated.
Saddened but not devastated. If this news was that he had passed suddenly, without any warning, that would have been a gut punch, to me anyway. This is more of a gentle reminder that a very old man is nearing the end of a life filled with kindness, love, and humanitarian service.
He's still with us for a while yet, and we have some time to prepare ourselves for the inevitable. Saying goodbye to him when the time comes will be incredibly hard, but we don't have to do it quite yet. In the meantime, let us celebrate this life that has been so long and so well-lived, and wish for him a peaceful departure.
