4. Suppose, for science fiction's sake that states seceded.

Since the UNITED States would not be on the hook to defend them, would they be easy prey for Canada and Mexico?

Their armies, presuming that the UNTED States takes back the National Guard equipment and its bases and facilities (oops!) are basically the remaining Proud Boys and militia groups.

And these states are no doubt on the "welfare" end of Federal spending. Ask me. I'm from California, which contributes way more than it receives.

Chances of such rogue states/"nations" negotiating security deals with the UNITED states, Canada or Mexico are nil (IMNSHO)
