Russia and China are both real good at this re-education camp business in the here and now and back in Soviet days. Neither the Tibetans nor the Uighurs want their children taught only in Chinese with books available only in Chinese, yet this cultural genocide continues. In the US and Canada, indigenous tribes didn’t want their children taken off to English-language boarding schools, either.

At least democracies have the means, motive, and opportunity to try to make amends. Dictatorships make it a crime to even notice.
