31. I always want to ask these people

When they knew they were straight. Tell us about that exact moment, what age you were, what made the light bulb come on--everything. They usually can't answer, because they've never thought about it or how they "became" straight.

‘Well, Dad, I’m bisexual.’ And this is when she was 12 years old. I said, ‘You’re too young to be really going into whether or not you’re bisexual. You’re not a dating age.’ And she dismissed me, unfortunately.'

She was right to dismiss your stupidity. Most of us know by that age which way our proclivities lie. Some might try to bury it if it's LGBT+, but down deep? They usually know by that age what they are.

I knew by the time I was, oh, five that the opposite sex was my jam. I even knew there were kids the same age whose tastes weren't the same, even if they never said anything about it. And I didn't care or expect them to say anything about it. Who cared who someone else liked or if they thought they were a boy, not a girl, as long as they weren't mean? That's all I cared about--mean or not mean.

Come to think of it, that's still what I care about: Mean or not mean.
