You perfectly described many of the women (wives) of the affluent neighborhoods. They have their "Teas" where they throw their support behind something, but it is usually something safe. Many of them sit on "Boards". They belong to their local county clubs and constantly attend "Dinners" on their husbands' arms. Behind the scenes they hide their problems and stuff down their personal issues with alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, therapies, and plastic surgeries. There is also abuse in those marriages as well as affairs, but the wives stuff those down as well. There is a hierarchy in their social circles and they strive to rise within, or at least never slide to the lower levels and would hate themselves if they did, even more than they probably already do.
