This is nothing that hasn't been seen of Trump in the past. People keep thinking that he will hit some magical mark that will "be his doom".
I don't think that Trump will or can win another national election. He is too polarizing, but I am not kicking up my feet and relaxing about my thought. I will continue to talk to people, argue, volunteer, donate, etc... to do my part to ensure that he has no chance.
Trump is an idiot and we should all feel a little thankful that he is. The scary part, and what we should be aware of is that a not insignificant portion of Americans are just as big of idiots and cruel, and Trump still serves some purpose to the wealthy and powerful in this country and they would rather support him to maintain their power, than to allow actual progressives to gain a foothold in government and actually start working for the interests of the majority of non-wealthy people, because is would come at a very minor inconvenience to those wealthy people.
This is not "politics as usual" or the same political situation as the 80's, 90's, or even 2000's. We are trying to stave off the rise of fascism here. No one should be giddy. Even when Trump is swept into the dustbin of history, people should not be giddy.
Once Fascism AND Conservatism have been thoroughly discredited and everyone is embarrassed for having believed it was a viable worldview, then we can all celebrate.
