It tells you all you need to know about the Republican mindset.

If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.

Except in this case, substitute LGBT for "colored." The hatred comes from the same place. Their racist and bigoted hatred means more to them than making money -- after all, how many of them happily part ways with their money to support their favorite racist and bigoted Republican?
