Goodbye, Florida
Heres why Im leaving
Florida, I have known you all the 63 years of my life. Generations of my family retired here and I leave with many memories, tainted by what Florida has become. I have sold my condo. I want nothing to do with a place where LGBTQ+ people are deliberately put in danger, where books are banned, where science and the media are demonized and derided. These politicians are modeling themselves on autocrats. We urgently need real leaders to face the very real challenges of our time. Our children and grandchildren are being robbed of their future. Climate change is a very real existential threat and political bickering has cost us precious time. Hurricanes, heat waves, fires and droughts will keep coming. The costs of insurance will continue to rise. The real threats are not drag queens, transgender people using the wrong bathroom and books that tell our story. Good people of Florida, dont allow yourselves to be sucked into the miasma.
