(43,155 posts)from the same town I live in in NJ went to FL to check out relocating there. I really was upset at the thought they were moving, but their property taxes here reached 17 grand a year and they were looking for some relief (although quite frankly, they own many rentals here and in PA and are in fact well situated to pay 17 grand a year in property taxes).
So anyway, they went down there to look at properties and see if they liked the place and they kept running into gun nuts.
Cut their trip short and came back here and said no way, we're happy to pay $17 grand to not live around gun nuts.
Now we have some property tax relief from our progressive governor, Phil Murphy. Seniors who make less than half a million a year in income get $6500 back a year. Also, there are other programs that might give them even more, like homestead rebate and Anchor.
