...that CAN be done about climate change: reduce and then eliminate CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.

If "standard of living" equals "quality of life", climate chaos caused by CO2 emissions is already (and will continue to do) a LOT more damage to the standard of living than ANY thing involved in the transition away from fossil fuels.
