(27,403 posts)Lets say, for the sake of argument, that Im part of a group seeking to ban private ownership of guns. I dont mean licensing, background checks, or other common-sense gun control, I mean an outright ban on anyone other than military or law enforcement owning any type of firearm.
I then go further, claiming that there is a vast conspiracy of shadowy elite cabals who gain sexual gratification from seeing innocent civilians gunned-down (like consumers of snuff films) and are thus conducting a campaign of influencing/brainwashing vulnerable individuals to commit mass shootings. I further intimate that there is a movement growing to oppose such perverts that will culminate in a storm where, say, a hidden force of heroes led by RFK, Jr. will overthrow the cabal and mete our final judgment against this cabal (which may involve the execution merely of NRA leaders and their political enablers, but might involve similar treatment for any gunowner or NRA member, since it will turn out that they all were involved in the conspiracy).
And then I, along with a number of people of similar beliefs, produce a hit feature film based on this scenario.
Then, when people complain that the scenario is dangerous bullshit, respond by reciting statistics about mass shootings, and sanctimoniously asking So, does no one here care about the little kids gunned down at Sandy Hook or Uvalde? Apparently not.
Anyone see how ridiculous that argument would be? How is this different?
