(12,716 posts)With Draconian abusive laws used to enforce such religious beliefs, maybe a cause of this kind of behavior.
First, it keeps scared pregnant girls afraid of finding out for sure if they are pregnant for fear of draconian and abusive consequences. This prevents many young girls from preparing to leave forced birth states or take action to prevent the unwanted birth.
Second, once facing the fact of their pregnancy, and doing research, the women realize a lot more resources and help will be required to prevent this birth. More resources and help than most young women have in reality and would not be required if not for these forced birth laws.
Third, these forced birth laws ensure all actions to end the pregnancy must be hidden and done in secret just like in the 1950s and further delays taking action to prevent a birth.
So more and more girls will be having later and later abortions thanks to forced birth laws. It won't ever, ever stop women from getting abortions but it will make life miserable for women and children in red states.
At 28 weeks, this fetus had a 80 percent chance of living but only about a 10 percent chance of ever being healthy. We can partially blame the forced birth religious zealots, for turning dogma into law, for these consequences.
