I have been resisting using the meatball nickname for DeSantis myself, simply because it came from Trump. Even though Ronnie White Boots deserves any insults people feel like dishing out to him, I don't like the idea of helping to popularize any of the nicknames Trump bestows on people, just on principle. (I don't call Rubio "Little Marco" for the same reason.)

This is purely a personal choice on my part, and I don't expect anyone to necessarily agree. I feel pretty good about it, especially if it's offensive to Italian Americans. But it's definitely a YMMV kind of thing.
