I just got off the phone with my DC attorney daughter who is pissed beyond all belief. She was at dinner with a couple of other partners from her firm and they are foaming at the mouth at the way Trump is acting.

You put your finger on it:

In other words, Trump is now intimidating witnesses and jury members that he will get revenge on them for aiding the prosecution. It is a very real and dangerous threat . . .

Trump knows exactly what he is doing.
