(21,883 posts)She had applied and been turned down twice, and finally got a 3rd hearing. Her lawyer told her that it usually went through the 3rd time. They don't know why, they are always turned down on the first try, and quite often on the 2nd. And a lot of people give up at that point. If you go for the 3rd time, it is quite often approved. Sure enough, she was approved on the 3rd try. Unfortunately, she passed away about a week after she had been approved. This was all in the last few weeks, so I'm still in shock, as is her mom. She has talked to Social Security and they will give her the social security in arrears, not sure if it is from the first time she applied, haven't heard the whole story yet. But her mom was supporting her, and she lives with me too. I'm happy she will be getting some of the money back that she used (her retirement money) supporting her daughter. But don't give up on the disability yet.
