In reply to the discussion: Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak' [View all]TomWilm
(1,935 posts)115. You can quote Jesus as a militant, or quote him as a pacifist ...
The pastors can claim Jesus always wanted to turn the other cheek. But if their congregants actually had read the Bible, they could contradict with the Christian Sword verses, where Jesus said: Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth:
I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Matthew 10:24-36
Brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
Matthew 10:21-23
Then He said to them, But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.
Gospel of Luke 22:36-38

Plenty to pick from. I prefer the pacifist Jesus, but know there are other versions...

This should not be a surprise. Trump's been hammering this for quite some time.
