From a student.

One that I didn't like but who didn't know that from my behavior.

I understood this to be a gesture of appreciation from a student.

Should I have filed assault charges?

If for now other reason than if it had been recorded and misrepresented and that lie accepted I'd be fired and my license to teach revoked. At my age, good luck getting a job. Yes, a dozen other students were there, but at least one perspective cancelled them.

So, apparently, "yes." I should have filed harassment, maybe sexual assault charges against her--ruining her life as she graduated high school. Or at least reported it, for CYA value.

But contrary to autonomous-based and POMO-thinking, intent matters. My student wanted to show appreciation and "so long", nothing more--haven't seen her since, honestly, I've even forgotten her name.
